NPA siezes at least 20 HPR's in North Cotabato

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today congratulated the New People's Army (NPA) for its sterling victory in a raid on a detachment of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) in Mlang, North Cotabato yesterday afternoon that yielded at least 20 high-powered rifles.

According to initial reports, NPA Red fighters were able to seize 16 M- Garand rifles, two M16 rifles, an M14 rifle and a Carbine. A member of the paramilitary group was killed while two others were wounded. This successful offensive adds to the string of victories achieved by the NPA in the past several months.

"The raid against the Mlang detachment is another demonstration of the NPA's determination and capability to intensify its tactical offensives and raise people's war to a higher stage of development," said the CPP. "It highlights the NPA's upcoming 41st anniversary, underscores the utter failure of the US-Arroyo regime's counterrevolutionary Oplan Bantay Laya and gives the revolutionary movement more confidence in reaching the stage of strategic stalemate by mid-decade."

The CPP noted that the number of weapons seized in the North Cotabato tactical offensive was the biggest so far this year. Earlier this month, the NPA seized 13 weapons when it practically wiped out a platoon of elite Philippine Army forces in Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro.

"The newly seized weapons will arm a new platoon of NPA Red fighters," noted the CPP. "There is a growing need to seize more weapons from the enemy in order to arm the increasing number of NPA recruits."

The CPP urged all NPA commands to duplicate and even surpass the victorious tactical offensives in North Cotabato and Oriental Mindoro.
